(Hebrews 10:23 – NKJV)…..Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.
Do you ever think about the things you say? What people hear coming from your mouth, that really is coming from your heart (Luke 6:45). Think about your confession that people hear. No, not the confession of sin, but your confession of hope, of salvation, of Christ Himself. You see, your confession is what you say. What you say about the hope that is in you. What you say about Jesus Christ and what He has done for you. The Bible tells you to hang on tight to that hope.
God has no reason to tell us to hold fast, or hang on tight, to our confession, unless someone, or something, will be trying to get us to turn loose of it — and say something else. And you and I live in such a world. A world that is trying desperately to cause you to compromise your love for Christ. Don’t give in, hold on firmly to the hope in Christ without wavering.
(Hebrews 3:1-2 – NKJV)…..Therefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our confession, Christ Jesus, who was faithful to Him who appointed Him, as Moses also was faithful to all his house.
(Hebrews 4:14 – NKJV)…..Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in the time of need.
Jesus is the High Priest of our confession — what we say. Think about that for a moment! Jesus Christ is the center (focus) of our confession of faith in the gospel in our public testimony. So what should be our confession then? Our confession that agrees with the gospel, that everyone hears from us when we speak? Here are just a few things that should be in our confession.
- I am healed in Christ Jesus – (1 Peter 2:24)
- I am forgiven in Christ Jesus – (Colossians 2:13)
- I am justified in Christ Jesus – (Romans 4:25)
- I am righteous in Christ – (Romans 3:21-22) (2 Corinthians 5:21)
- I have been delivered from the kingdom of darkness – (Colossians 1:13)
- I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me – (Philippians 4:13)
- I am strong in the Lord – (Ephesians 6:10)
- I have the Greater One in me – (1 John 4:4)
- The Holy Spirit is guiding me – (John 16:13)
- God is working in me – (Philippians 2:13)
- The Lord is your helper – (Hebrews 13:6)
And wen can go on and on looking at things we should confess. But you may wonder why you should confess with your own lips what God says in the Bible about you. Because God is looking for faith, and that is what pleases Him (Hebrews 11:6). It is with our mouth that we speak to what we believe in our heart.
It takes faith to speak what the Bible says about you. Especially when you don’t feel like it and the circumstances don’t agree. But we have to choose: will we rely on our feelings, or on God’s Word? Do we trust the circumstances more than God’s Word?
But you may say, “What the Word says is just not true in my life.” You are the establishing witness. God has said something about you. Now when you come into agreement with Him, when you believe what His word says concerning you, it will become manifest in your life.
(Mark 11:23 – NKJV)…..”For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will come to pass, he will have whatever he says.
