April 30th, 2020 – Morning Devotions With Pastor Dan
He who is of God hears God’s words; therefore you do not hear, because you are not of God.” (John 8:47)
Paul wrote to young Timothy reminding him of the reason people don’t listen:
Those who have believing masters must not be disrespectful on the ground that they are brothers; rather they must serve all the better since those who benefit by their good service are believers and beloved. Teach and urge these things. If anyone teaches a different doctrine and does not agree with the sound words of our Lord Jesus Christ and the teaching that accords with godliness, he is puffed up with conceit and understands nothing. He has an unhealthy craving for controversy and for quarrels about words, which produce envy, dissension, slander, evil suspicions, and constant friction among people who are depraved in mind and deprived of the truth, imagining that godliness is a means of gain. (1 Timothy 6:1-4 – ESV)
It is nothing less than our pride that stops our ears. We don’t want to hear what God says because we think we know what is best for our lives. What utter arrogance! Yet it happens millions of times a day by almost everyone.
The Adjustment
If ever there was a moment in our nation when we needed to hear what God is saying, it is now. We need it personally, and we need it nationally. So, what adjustment do we need to make in our lives right now to get in a position to hear? It may be that we need to step back and review what He has already said, and begin there with repentance and fresh obedience. It surely will mean time in the Word and prayer, for the Word of God, Spirit of God, and people of God are His primary means of communication to us.
