May 6th, 2020 – Morning Devotion With Pastor Dan
The LORD reigns, He is clothed with majesty; The LORD is clothed, He has girded Himself with strength. Surely the world is established, so that it cannot be moved. Your throne is established from of old; You are from everlasting. (Psalm 93:1-2)
If you are a Christian who is undergoing some sort of persecution for the gospel – if you are struggling with the course of this world – if you enduring physical ailments that leave you miserable – if you are experiencing trouble in your marriage – or in at home – if you are facing an obstacle in your life that seems insurmountable – be comforted by the fact that the LORD reigns
- Perhaps you are discouraged – I tell you that Christ reigns
- Perhaps you feel weak and impotent in the face of temptations and trials – I remind you that Christ reigns
- All praise should come from our lips and life to Him Who reigns above
Why do Christians persevere through all the – difficulties – trials – and hardships – that faith in Christ brings
- Why did Joseph persevere in prison – knowing that he had done no wrong?
- Why did Daniel continue to pray as at other times – knowing that it might cost him his life?
- Why did the three Hebrews refuse to bow down to the idols – when faced with the fiery furnace?
- How could Paul and Silas have rejoiced after being beaten and imprisoned in Philippi?
- How is it that the gospel continues to spread in the face of fierce communist and Islamic opposition?
- Listen – there is only one answer – it is the same answer to every question of its kind – it is the answer of the ages – “The LORD Reigns”
Who wrote (Psalm 93)? – Moses? – David? – The human author is a mystery but the divine Author is the Holy Spirit of God
- This Psalm is said to be a hymn to the eternal and powerful reign of the LORD
- A truth that is also brought forth in the next few Psalms (47; 94-100)
- These Psalms are praises of hope in the Majestic Reign Of Christ to come
- These Psalms (hymns) were composed for the worship of the Kingship of the LORD over all His creation – over all nations – in a special sense over Israel – annually – possibly the feasts of booths
The LORD’s Kingship stands in contrast to all false gods of idolatry in this world
- He is the “Great King” above all gods (false gods) – (Psalm 95:3)
- Notice – this Psalm begins with – “The LORD reigns” – rather – He has become King
- Read: (Psalm 10:16) (Psalm 29:10) (Psalm 47:6) (Psalm 96:10) (Psalm 97:1)
- Whatever opposition may arise – God’s throne is unmoved – He has reigned – He does reign – and He will reign – for ever and ever
- Whatever turmoil and rebellion there may be in this world – the Eternal King sits above all in supreme power – calm – peaceful – in control – everywhere and in everything – He is Master
- All things are ordered according to His eternal purposes – and His will is done – (Psalm 2)
- In the verses before us today, (Psalm 93:1-2), it would seem as if the LORD puts on His regal apparel and ascends to His lofty seat – while his happy people proclaim him with new joy – shouting “The Lord reigns”
- What can give greater joy to a loyal subject than a sight of the King in his beauty?
- Let us repeat the proclamation, “the LORD reigns”
