May 18th, 2020 – Morning Devotion With Pastor Dan
Have you ever just pondered on how great God is? How wonderful He is? Certainly, He is both great and wonderful! Just think of how His greatness has been revealed in His creation. Of the wonders that He does daily in our life. What wonders has He done in your life? Could you list them? How many wonders has the Lord done in our life even in the last week? Do you remember?
The truth is sometimes we find ourselves in a place where we need to remind ourselves of the wonders that God has done – and is doing – around us – for us – and in us, because we are much like the people who have lived before us that God said…….
- Were not mindful of His wonders – (Nehemiah 9:17)
- Were forgetful of His wonders – (Psalm 78:11-12)
- Were lacking in understanding of His wonders – (Psalm 106:7)
- Were unbelieving concerning His works and wonders – (Psalm 78:32)
There are many wonders that are attributed to God – I suppose they would be limitless with no way to ever record them all – just think about what tells us – (John 21:25). But here are a few wonders to think about…….
The Wonder Of God’s Glory All of God’s creation is a glorious sight to observe – and it screams out to us that there is a Creator, (Psalm 19:1-4). The universe declares His glory – and that glory causes us to see a wondrous God. The Wonder Of The Word Jesus is the display of God’s holiness in human form, (Matthew 3:16-17) The Wonder Of His Authority Jesus – who is fully God – has complete authority over everything. This truth has been declared to us in – (Colossians 1:16-17). The Wonder Of God’s Mercy To meditate on the wonder of God’s mercy – one just needs to study – (Psalm 136)
We need to remember – and talk about the works and wonders of our Great (Awesome) God – it is our duty as Christians – (Psalm 77:12). Speaking of the word “Awesome” – it’s a word we use to describe things that are great. The word means – expressive of awe or inspiring awe – an emotion variously combining dread, veneration, and wonder that is inspired by authority or by the sacred or sublime – such as I stood in awe of the king – or that I regard to nature’s wonders with awe. But there’s an even more awe-inspiring reality — it’s knowing the Creator and Sustainer of the entire universe – (Isaiah 42:5-9) (Hebrews 1:1-3). No wonder the Psalmist wrote: “The LORD Most High is awesome” – (Psalm 47:2)
Both Job and David spoke of the wonders of all of God’s creation in (Job 9:1-14) (Psalm 19:1-6). They both concluded that His eternal attention was centered upon man, whom He made in His image and after His likeness – (Job 7:17-18) (Psalm 8:4-6). I am even more amazed when I consider how greatly He loves us, and how great is His mercy and grace is on our behalf – (Psalm 86:5) (Psalm 86:15).
It’s awe-inspiring to consider the might of the God who separated the water in the sky from the water in the sea – (Genesis 1:6-10)– and by His Word, holds them apart even now – (Colossians 1:17). Take note of the wonders that Asaph speaks of in – (Psalm 77:15-20). It is a sobering thought that God Who is so great should care anything for us, a creature so small. Yet the wonder is not that God merely regards us – but that while we were yet sinners – He sent His only precious Son to lay down His life for us – (Romans 5:8). Let’s ponder that thought for a moment — a God who can divide sea and sky cares enough for you and me to become the ultimate sacrifice for us. A God in comparison with whom we are like grasshoppers – (Isaiah 40:22) – sees so much value in us that He would pay the most terrible price to reconcile us to Himself – by allowing man (His creation) to nail Him to a cross and have the full brunt of the Father’s wrath (which was due us) levied on Himself, (Ephesians 2:16) (Colossians 1:20).
There are many wonders that are attributed to God – I suppose they would be limitless with no way to ever record them all – just think about what tells us – (John 21:25). The God of wonders is no average diety that we can treat with anything but Awe – because He is GREAT!
(Psalm 86:8-10)…..Among the gods there is none like You, O Lord; Nor are there any works like Your works. All nations whom You have made shall come and worship before You, O Lord, and shall glorify Your name. For You are great, and do wondrous things; You alone are God.
