Do you like to fight? It seems like there is a lot of it going on today. People are fighting with all sorts of things, diseases, addictions, spouses, employers, government, politicians, policies, etc. There seems to be fighting, complaining, and grumbling wherever anyone looks. I understand the frustrations so many have when the world around them seems to be falling apart one piece at a time. This is certainly seen in all of the encroachments done by are government in regard to our freedoms. People are in the fighting mode because of all that is going on, and they are increasing in their frustration on a daily basis. But let’s just take a breath, and let me remind you of some Scriptures that tell us how to fight, and what for.
(2 Timothy 4:6-7)…..For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
(Ephesians 6:13-15)…..Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
(1 Peter 5:6-9)…..Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, 7 casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you. Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. 9 Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world.
(1 Timothy 6:12 – NKJ)…..Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.
Christians are supposed to fight — just not with each other. Our struggle is about our faith. The devil wants our faith in God to wither and die. God wants our faith to grow stronger. The battlefield is your mind. The devil tries to keep his evidence foremost in your thoughts: negative circumstances and what your senses tell you. God’s evidence is contained in His unchanging Word: the Bible. Here is the fight, we must choose to feed on the Word of God, getting it into our thinking (Romans 12:1-2).
The devil still tells mankind his old lie, “Has God said?” which we could modernize as, “Did God really mean that?” Yes, God meant what He said and said what He meant. “Then why doesn’t it seem that way when I look around at my circumstances?” Because you are supposed to fight the good fight of faith and actively receive the promised blessings. God will bring His Word to pass in your life when you actively believe it. God’s program is set up to reward those who trust Him.
You should resist and even rebuke thoughts of doubt, knowing they originate with the evil one (2 Corinthians 10:3-6)…..For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled.
A good fight is a fight you can win.
