How many of you have ever lied? Now if you are saying to yourself, “not me,” then you are probably lying right now. It is a dispicable character trait of sinful man. It is something that shameful in it’s use, yet we are all guilty of it at one time or another. The thing about lying is that the lier can never be trusted in the things they promise or say. As a Christian, I am glad that there is no cause of lying in God. He just doesn’t lie! How secure does that make you feel?
(Titus 1:2)…..in hope of eternal life which God, who cannot lie, promised before time began,
It’s not just that God has decided He will not lie — He CANNOT lie. God only speaks the truth! He is the truth! Everything He says is the truth!
(John 17:17)…..”Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.
Whatever God says comes to pass. God cannot lie, because anything He says will come into being — even if it did not exist before He said it. Think about what He said in Genesis. God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. God cannot lie because it is contrary to His nature. God’s nature is one of selfless love for others. His nature is not to deceive. It is natural for God to be truthful and never to deceive. God is not a man, so he does not lie. He is not human, so he does not change his mind. Has he ever spoken and failed to act? Has he ever promised and not carried it through to any of us? The author of the book of Hebrews tells us that there are two things that are unchangeable, and one of those things is it is impossible for God to lie. This is what makes the foundation of our relationship with God so solid — God has given us His Word — which cannot fail because He cannot lie! God cannot lie because it is not His nature and because whatever He speaks will happen.
Now, what this does is it gives us confidence that every promise God has made to us, we can be sure they will come to pass because it is impossible for God to lie. Praise the Lord for He is the way, the TRUTH, and the life.
