Have you ever wondered about the resurrection, what it will be like, and what It will look like? Do thoughts of the resurrection go through your mind? What will our new body look like? Who will we know? These are questions I get asked all the time. But I have noticed something over the years as a Christian and as a pastor. I’ve noticed that people equate resurrection with a destination. You know, resurrection means I’m going to heaven. Although that is partly true, it is not all of what resurrection is. You see resurrection is more about the person of Jesus Christ than an event or place.
(John 11:25)…..Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live.
What did Jesus mean by saying He is the resurrection? Again resurrection is not just an event, but a person: the Lord Jesus Christ. He is our resurrection. Those who are united with Jesus Christ through their belief in Him experience His resurrection life, even now.
(1 John 5:12)…..He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.
The resurrection also means that because of our union with Christ Jesus, death cannot hold us captive. Even though we may pass through death, it cannot hold us. Why? Because Jesus lives in us, He is our life, so death cannot hold us any more than death was able to hold Jesus. So let this be a comfort to you today if Jesus is your Savior, that in Jesus Christ we have the guarantee of resurrection and eternal life.
