Morning Devotions With Pastor Dan – July 29th, 2020.
Does God really care about me? – Does God really understand what I am going through in my life? – Is God really there? – Can I really trust Him? These are questions we might hear in today’s world from people who are looking for help and hope. There are many things in this world which people put their trust in or get their security from, the sad thing is that most, if not all, of what the world derives their trust and security from will fail them. As a child of God (a believer and follower of Jesus Christ), we are supposed to have all of our trust in the Lord. But when things really get hard in life, can I really trust Him?
When you are hurting can you find refuge in the Lord? When no one seems to understand what you are going through, can you lean on the Lord for understanding? When everybody around you seems to fail you, can you depend on the Lord?
(Psalm 56:1-4)…..Be merciful to me, O God, for man would swallow me up; Fighting all day he oppresses me. My enemies would hound me all day, for there are many who fight against me, O Most High. Whenever I am afraid, I will trust in You. In God (I will praise His word), in God I have put my trust; I will not fear. What can flesh do to me?
Where should our trust be as believers?
- In God’s name – (Psalm 9:9-10)
- In God’s mercy – (Psalm 52:8) (Lamentations 3:22-23)
- In God’s word – (Psalm 119:41-42)
- Where are the answers we need when faced with troubles?
- In the LORD – (Proverbs 3:5-8)
In the midst of a very lonely and difficult time, when David had been captured by the Philistines, God brought David to a place where he could say…….“this I know, because God is for me!” (Psalm 56:9-11)
If you had asked him how he would get out of his present troubles, he would have probably replied…. “I do not know.”
If you had asked him how or when he would become king, he would have probably replied, “I do not know, but I do know that God is for me, and if God is for me, then He will make a way for me, and that is all I need to know!”
This then is the question for us…. “Can you say that God is for me?” Right here, right now, can you say that with real conviction in your heart? Do you know this to be true? And not just in your head, but can you also stand on it when it doesn’t feel (from outward circumstances) to be true? I hope we can say and believe the same as David here because the truth is that God Himself is on the side of those who are His. He will protect those who are His from any foe that would try to remove them from Himself.
Read: (Psalm 27:1-5) (Psalm 46:1-7) (John 10:22-30) (1 John 4:4)
Think for a minute of just how much God loves you. Because God loves you so much, He has chosen to give us His only begotten Son Jesus Christ to redeem us from the penalty of our sin (John 15:13) (1 John 3:16).
His death became my death! His payment became my payment! God did not save a single one of us to lose us along the way. There is no one who can say anything before God that would cause Him to change His mind about His child (you who have come to Him for salvation) (Isaiah 54:17) (Romans 8:1).
So are you persuaded that He loves you forever? Paul was (Romans 8:38-39). God stands behind His word! He stands with each one of you who are His, forever (Hebrews 13:5).
