Daily Devotion With Pastor Dan – August 4th, 2020
(Colossians 2:1-3)…..For I want you to know what a great conflict I have for you and those in Laodicea, and for as many as have not seen my face in the flesh, that their hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love, and attaining to all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the knowledge of the mystery of God, both of the Father and of Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
These treasures of wisdom and knowledge are hidden in the Father and Christ. Wow! Think about the treasure one might find in knowing God the Father and Jesus Christ the Son.
To have knowledge of God (to know Him) is a great treasure in the life of a saint. Read: (Jeremiah 9:24) (Jeremiah 31:34) (John 8:31-32) (John 17:3) (Philippians 3:10). Tell me – what do you know about your God? What’s He like? What pleases Him? What does He expect from you? What does His voice sound like? Remember His sheep hear His voice. If the treasure of knowledge is hidden in God and Christ – what is the depth of that knowledge? Read: (Romans 11:33) (Psalm 69:5) (Psalm 139:2).
Prior to his conversion to Jesus Christ – the apostle Paul was on the “fast track” – a “rising star” in the religion of Judaism –(Galatians 1:13-14) (Philippians 3:4-6). But once he came to know who Jesus Christ really was – all the power – all the prestige – all the position of influence that he once had meant nothing – (Philippians 3:7-8). What mattered more than anything – was that He might “know Jesus Christ.”
What is there about the knowledge of Jesus Christ that makes it so desirable for people like Paul and countless others? And should we desire this “knowledge,” how do we gain it? In our desire to obtain knowledge – certain attitudes are necessary.
- A heart that longs and searches for knowledge (Proverbs 2:3-6) (1 Peter 2:2)
- A mind that values knowledge more highly than gold (Proverbs 8:10-11)
- A love for instruction (Proverbs 12:1)
A person with these attitudes will make daily Bible reading a priority in their life. They will also utilize every opportunity to study the Word of God alone – and with others. What about us? Do you demonstrate that acquiring knowledge of God’s Word as a priority in our life? If one is diligent in their study of God’s Word, their progress will be evident (1Timothy 4:15-16). Of course – the reverse is just as true
May today find you on the path of believing in Jesus Christ as your Savior and learning of Him in His Scriptures, so you may find the wisdom and knowledge that are hidden in both God and Christ.
