Daily Devotion With Pastor Dan – August 10th, 2020
In this passage of Scripture, we see the command given by the Psalmist to – “Give to the LORD glory and strength.” This is, of course, a continuing declaration of the Psalmist in (Psalm 96:5-6). God made the heavens, therefore honor and majesty are before Him. Strength and beauty are in His sanctuary. So, because He is to be feared, and greatly praised, there is an appeal here to GIVE to Him glory and strength and to join in the song of praise to Him (Psalm 96:1). Is this something that we find ourselves doing on a regular basis? May it be!
The word “glory” here is also translated “honor.” Have you ever given it thought of how we honor God in our everyday living?
- We honor God when we worship Him in songs of praise as He desires (Ephesians 5:19) (Colossians 3:16) (Hebrews 13:15).
- We honor God by ordering our conduct right according to the instructions of God’s word (Psalm 50:23). Jesus further expressed this concept when He said in (John 12:26)…..“If anyone serves Me, let him follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also. If anyone serves Me, him My Father will honor”
- We honor God by being good stewards of the blessings He has provided (Proverbs 3:9)….. “Honor the Lord with your possessions, And with the first fruits of all your increase.“
- This passage teaches that we are to honor God with the things that He has given us (2 Corinthians 9:5-8) (1 Corinthians 16:1-2). We are to honor God with the talents He has equipped us with (Romans 12:6-8)…..“Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, let us prophesy in proportion to our faith; or ministry, let us use it in our ministering; he who teaches, in teaching; he who exhorts, in exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness.”
- We are to honor God with our words
- We please the Lord with our tongue – when we show discernment – (Proverbs 10:19)
- When we do speak – we are to filter the words that escape our lips – (Proverbs 21:23)
- It is important that we use kind and wise words when we speak – (Proverbs 15:1-2)
- Avoiding words that reflect poorly on who we are as Christians – (Ephesians 4:29)
- Let us use that are pleasing to God – (Colossians 4:6)
How different an individual’s life would be if everything were done with a view of glorifying God – with every thought – every word – every action directed toward honoring Him
