Daily Devotion With Pastor Dan – October 7th, 2020
(Psalm 45:1-9)…..My heart is overflowing with a good theme; I recite my composition concerning the King; My tongue is the pen of a ready writer. 2 You are fairer than the sons of men; Grace is poured upon Your lips; Therefore God has blessed You forever. 3 Gird Your sword upon Your thigh, O Mighty One, With Your glory and Your majesty. 4 And in Your majesty ride prosperously because of truth, humility, and righteousness; And Your right hand shall teach You awesome things. 5 Your arrows are sharp in the heart of the King’s enemies; The peoples fall under You. 6 Your throne, O God, is forever and ever; A scepter of righteousness is the scepter of Your kingdom.
7 You love righteousness and hate wickedness; Therefore God, Your God, has anointed You with the oil of gladness more than Your companions. 8 All Your garments are scented with myrrh and aloes and cassia, out of the ivory palaces, by which they have made You glad. 9 Kings’ daughters are among Your honorable women; At Your right hand stands the queen in gold from Ophir.
Can you remember when you fell in love with the one you would spend the rest of your life with? That sounds old fashioned in the world we live in today. It is a major mile stone to see a marriage get to 50 years or more, but it is considered by many as unachievable, or unrealistic. But anyway, can you remember what it was like when you would look at your spouse with your eyes and heart full of love? That time when you were, infatuated, consumed, awe struck, and week in the knees whenever they were around you. When you couldn’t eat or sleep because all your energy was spent in thinking of the one you love. When all you wanted to do was to see, talk, and hold the one you love. When you were not ashamed to proclaim your love for him/her, no matter who was around.
First, let me say I hope you are in love with the wife/husband of your youth the very same way today. I hope you see your spouse as the loveliest gift you could ever receive other than salvation. I hope you are consumed with love for your spouse far beyond any other person or thing (other than Christ) each and every day.
Now Psalm 45 is a “Song of Love.” The superscription assigns it to “The Chief Musician” – it is described as – “A contemplation of the sons of Korah” – it refers to the word – “Shoshannim” – a song set to “The Lilies” – it is an allegory (a representative of a spiritual meaning). In the Song of Songs this allegory is carried out more fully. It is a word from a Father to a Son (Hebrews 1:5-9). It is a love song about the parties in a Royal Wedding. It is a love song between a Bridegroom and a Bride. But ultimately it is a love song used to set forth the relation between Jesus Christ and is His church (us). A theme that runs through both the O.T. and N.T. (Isaiah 54:1-5) (Isaiah 62:1-5) (Matthew 22:1-14) (Matthew 25:1-13) (John 3:27-29)
Notice how the Psalmist begins this Psalm. His heart is inditing (overflowing, overwhelmed) with a good matter (theme). The word inditing (overflowing) is (râchash), it is the word for boiling or bubbling up. It means to boil up or over, as a fountain. The Hebrew word does not occur anywhere else in the Bible.
We know the importance of the heart, it is the seat of…..
- Life – (Proverbs 4:23)
- Treasure – (Matthew 12:33-35)
- Praise – (Ephesians 5:18-21) (Colossians 3:14-16)
- Affections – (Matthew 15:17-19)
- Love – (Mark 12:29-31)
It is out of this sort of heart that the Psalmist’s recites his composition concerning how much he loves the King with all his heart. If we were to write or speak about the one we love, would it come from an inditing, overflowing heart of love and devotion, or would it be something less passionate? Let the LORD know today just how much you love Him. Let Him know that you love Him today. Obey Him and tell Him.
