(Psalm 33:10-17)…..The Lord brings the counsel of the nations to nothing; He makes the plans of the peoples of no effect. 11 The counsel of the Lord stands forever, the plans of His heart to all generations. 12 Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people He has chosen as His own inheritance. 13 The Lord looks from heaven; He sees all the sons of men. 14 From the place of His dwelling He looks on all the inhabitants of the earth; 15 He fashions their hearts individually; He considers all their works. 16 No king is saved by the multitude of an army; A mighty man is not delivered by great strength. 17 A horse is a vain hope for safety; Neither shall it deliver any by its great strength.
The times we live in seem to be a time of great uncertainty for some people.reat turmoil and terrorism abroad. There is much turmoil, governmental proplems, endorsed sin, and rejection of God and morality in our own nation. When all we do is look to news outlets, and social media for answers and help, It is easy to be filled with anxiety, especially if one has no fellowship with the LORD
What does the future hold? People are wondering whether things will get better or worse? But we who are followers of Christ, what should be our attitude in such times as these? Should we fear the future? Should we worry for our well-being? In some sense we can say yes, but the answer can be found in remembering that God is in control of all things.
God has shown Himself to be the Sovereign God through His Scriptures. In the Old Testament we can read of this in (Isaiah 10:5-15) (Isaiah 46:8-11) (Daniel 2:20-22). In the New Testament we can read of His Sovereignty in (Matthew 28:18) (Luke 1:31-33) (Ephesians 1:19-23) (Revelation 1:5). Jesus Himself is truly Lord of lords and King of kings! (1 Timothy 6:13-16) (Revelation 17:14) (Revelation 19:16). No government exists without His approval (Romans 13:1-2). Man can make his plans and devise his schemes, but in the end God’s will is going to be accomplished. It may seem that the world is out of control, but we need not fear because our God is in control of all things (Psalm 115:1-3)
Nothing takes place that is not a part of His divine plan. Oh, we can take comfort this morning in that truth. I know that doesn’t sit well with many people in our day because we want to be in control of our own life, and we want the world to revolve around us and our desires. But God has determined by Himself exactly what will take place in this world (Psalm 135:5-7) (Daniel 4:34-35). Those who respond to God’s will by submitting to Him will be blessed.
The decisions that will determine the course of this world are not made in Washington D.C., or in Moscow or Beijing, and so on. The decisions that will affect the course of this world are made in Heaven, by the Sovereign God Who occupies the throne as the Ruler of all things.
And what is amazing is that the God Who controls all things takes an intimate interest in your life. He sees everything that happens to you, He sees all the pain, He sees all the problems, He sees the hurts, all the fears, all the valleys, and all the sorrows in your life. Nothing escapes His gaze, because His “eye” is on those who “fear Him” and upon those who “hope in His mercy” (33:18). So while a lost world lives in fear, the people of God can rest in God’s Sovereign strength (33:20-22). He will not fail you, He will not desert you, He loves you and He will take care of you until you join Him in glory (Psalm 37:25-29). Oh, He is worthy to be praised!
