Daily Devotion With Pastor Dan Nickerson – November 10th, 2020
“My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; And he is the propitiation for our ins: and not for ours only; but also for the sins of the whole world. And hereby we do know that we know him, and keep His commandments. He that saith, I know Him, and keepeth not His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in Him. But whoso keepeth His word, in Him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in Him. He that saith he abideth in Him ought himself also so to walk even as He walked” (1 John 2:1-6 KJV)
Walking is good exercise for strengthening the physical heart. Walking is certainly one way to excercise our physical body healthy, but “walking with God” is the only method of keeping the spiritual man in you healthy. If we love God with all our heart, mind and soul as commanded in the first and great commandment (Matthew 22:37), “walking with God” will be our goal in life. The Bible has much to say about this. It might help this morning if you look these Scriptures up in your bible and meditate on them.
1) Do justly, love mercy and walk humbly – (Micah 6:8)
2) Please God – (Genesis 5:21-24) (Hebrews 11:5)
3) Do all that God commands – (Genesis 6:8-9,22) (Genesis 7:5)
4) Fear God and keep His commandments – (Deuteronomy 13:4)
5) Walk before God in truth, righteousness and uprightness – (1 Kings 3:6)
6) Do that which is right in the sight of God and turn not aside to the right or to the left – (2 Kings 22:1-2)
7) Fear the Lord and walk in His ways – (Psalm 128:1-2)
8) Walk in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless (Luke 1:5-6)
9) Walk by faith – (2 Corinthians 5:6-8)
10) Walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit – (Romans 8:1-4) (Galatians 5:16)
11) Walk in the light – (1 John 1:6-7)
12) Walk even as Jesus walked – (1 John 2:1-6)
Sometimes, the more significant, powerful, or influential someone is, the less you know about him or her. There are some people of influence whose names most of us have never heard of, who we know nothing about, yet they make decisions which affect millions of lives. Enoch is a man who we know hardly anything about, besides his age and genealogy; but we do know this, that Enoch walked with God, and then God took him. What an example! Is there anything greater that can be said about someone than, “He walked with God”? Wouldn’t that be the perfect words for a tombstone?
Enoch’s life was eternally distinguished by this one characteristic: his personal relationship with the Lord. He maintained a fellowship that was so pleasing to God that He just transformed the man’s earthly body and took him to glory without ever experiencing death, and this was long before the Holy Spirit was poured out on all flesh. But this ought to be the simple secret of the life of every believer, that we walk with Him, because the mystery that was hidden from mankind is now revealed to us through His Son, “Christ in you, the HOPE OF GLORY.” Now, every truly born again man/woman can walk with the living God through His constantly indwelling presence. Do we realize the amazing opportunity we’ve been given? Do we realize the opportunity for intimacy that we have been given, a conscious choice to walk with God, to think about Him, to look at Him, to talk with Him, rest in Him, obey Him, care about him, serve Him, and love Him. We as believers in Jesus Christ, are all guaranteed the resurrection that Enoch experienced because Yeshua (Jesus) walked with God and totally pleased Him. Oh thank you Jesus for making my salvation in you so secure. But we have the choice to follow His example of intimacy…just as our brother Enoch did. We can walk with Him today!
