Daily Devotion With Pastor Dan Nickerson – November 21st, 2020
(Psalm 89:8-18)…..You rule the raging of the sea;
When its waves rise, You still them. 10 You have broken Rahab in pieces, as one who is slain;
You have scattered Your enemies with Your mighty arm. 11 The heavens are Yours, the earth also is Yours; The world and all its fullness, You have founded them.
12 The north and the south, You have created them; Tabor and Hermon rejoice in Your name. 13 You have a mighty arm; Strong is Your hand, and high is Your right hand. 14 Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne; Mercy and truth go before Your face.
15 Blessed are the people who know the joyful sound! They walk, O Lord, in the light of Your countenance. 16 In Your name they rejoice all day long, And in Your righteousness they are exalted. 17 For You are the glory of their strength, And in Your favor our horn is exalted.
18 For our shield belongs to the Lord, and our king to the Holy One of Israel.
What a great passage concerning our LORD. But notice (89:11)…..“The heavens are Yours, the earth also is Yours; The world and all its fullness, You have founded them.” Notice what the Psalmist says about the possessing power of our God in this verse. Everything is His! Read: (Psalm 33:6) (Psalm 24:1) (Psalm 115:16) (Psalm 50:12). Everything is His from north to the south (which He created). Even from Tabor and Hermon (two mountains possibly referring to east and west) . The point is that everything belongs to God, Who controls all things, Who is incomparable to all. What makes all of this possible? God has a “mighty” arm – (89:10,13), that’s how. There is strength in the Mighty arm of God. Just how strong is the arm of the Lord you might ask? Some think not very strong. for they seek to take His throne and seat themselves upon it, making themselves god of their own lives, never-the-less His arm is strong (Luke 1:46-52) (Isaiah 59:1-2) (Psalm 98:1) (Colossians 2:13-15).
We know that the arm of the Lord was mighty in the former days, but what about today? Read (Ephesians 3:20-21). The strength of the Lord is as available today as in any generation before. The same God who brought the people out of Egypt is still God today. The same God that brought down fire on Mt. Carmel is still God today. The God who helped David defeat Goliath is still God today. The same God that brought down the walls of Jericho is still God today. The same God that rescued Peter from prison is still God today. The same God that raised up Jesus from the dead is still God today. Even with all we see in going on in our corrupt nation, He is still God today, Sovereignly in charge, and in control.
Let us acknowledge that He is God. He does not grow old with time nor is He weakened by godless generations of wicked men and women. HE IS GOD, He is Sovereign, He is Lord, and Glory to His name!
