(Psalm 27:11-14)…..Teach me Your way, O Lord, and lead me in a smooth path, because of my enemies. 12 Do not deliver me to the will of my adversaries; For false witnesses have risen against me, and such as breathe out violence. 13 I would have lost heart, unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. 14 Wait on the Lord; Be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart; wait, I say, on the Lord!
One of the hardest things to do it is to wait on the LORD when everything seems to be going against you, at least that how it seems to many people. Yet we are to wait on the Lord while believing that we will see the goodness of God (27:13). If we would learn to just trust God, to wait on Him, we would receive great strength from Him.
This morning in Bible Study we talked of that very thing, “trusting God.” And not just trusting Him, but what comes to us when we do. We are told in (Isaiah 26:3-4)…..You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You. Trust in the LORD forever, for in YAH, the LORD, is everlasting strength. What a beautiful verse that is filled with so much hope. The Bible speaks often about the importance of trusting God and waiting on Him
(Psalms 25:5)….Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day.
(Psalms 40:1)….I waited patiently for the LORD; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry.
(Psalms 62:1)….Truly my soul waiteth upon God: from him cometh my salvation.
(Psalms 123:2)….Behold, as the eyes of servants look unto the hand of their masters, and as the eyes of a maiden unto the hand of her mistress; so our eyes wait upon the LORD our God, until that he have mercy upon us.
(Psalms 130:5)….I wait for the LORD, my soul doth wait, and in his word do I hope.
(Isaiah 40:31)….But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
(Micah 7:7)….Therefore I will look unto the LORD; I will wait for the God of my salvation: my God will hear me.
(2 Thessalonians 3:5)….And the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God, and into the patient waiting for Christ.
What does it mean to wait on God? The Hebrew word translated wait means to “entrench.” God strengthens him that entrenches himself in Him. The idea of waiting for God here is that of digging ourselves in to God. There are times when the only hope we have, the only solution to our situation, the only cure for our condition is to wait on God. But we are an anxious people, and waiting and trusting God takes work. It takes God’s work on and in us. Are you an anxious person? Then entrench yourself in the LORD and “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Are you waiting on God? Just remember this, “You can trust Him!”
