Well it certainly feels like the last days, doesn’t it? Now I don’t know for sure any date or time of Christ’s return, but it sure feels ripe for time. With that in mind, I am sitting here of looking into the Revelation of Jesus Christ (known as the book of Revelation), and wondering if I should begin a series of devotions through this book. Maybe now is the time! We’ll see! But this today let me address the very first words of this book, “The Revelation of Jesus Christ.” There it is, the very reason for the whole book. It is given to Jesus in order that He might give it to His servants, to reveal Himself as King of all.
(Revelation 1:1-2)…..The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to show His servants – things which must shortly take place. And He sent and signified it by His angel to His servant John, 2 who bore witness to the word of God, and to the testimony of Jesus Christ, to all things that he saw.
We must realize His “magnificence,” just how impressively beautiful He is. Just how wondrous is He in your eyes? What does God say about Himself? Read: (Ecclesiastes 3:10-11) (Job 36:26-33) (Job 37:5-6) (Job 37:10-13) (Job 38:4) (Job 40:6-14) (Psalm 33:6-22) (Psalm 145:3-5). It is Him that created everything. He is the one who has all authority. He is declared of Him to be the “Alpha” and “Omega,” the “beginning” and “the end.” He is the one “who was,” “who is,” and “who is the one to come.” Notice in (Revelation 1:8), He is the “Almighty!” Now the name almighty occurs eight more times in this Revelation of Jesus Christ, and they are found in (4:8) (11:17) (15:3) (16:7) (16:14) (19:6) (19:15) (21:22). God exercise’s sovereign control over every person, every beast, every object, every event, not one molecule in the universe is outside His dominion. One might ask, “What does this have to do with the Revelation of Jesus Christ?” Everything! We must understand that the message of Revelation is from God, the One who is Almighty, who has all authority, and who is impressively beautiful so that we will listen to the words that follow in this book.
