In looking at the Revelation of Jesus Christ, I mentioned that it is a declaration of the “unveiling, “the removing of the cover, ” the “Apokolupsis” of Jesus Christ. The Father has “taken the cover off” and has revealed the glory of His Son to the church. Literally, what has taken place is that God has given the Revelation of His Son To His Son, Who gave it to His Angel to give it to John, that He might give it to us His Church. Just meditate on the mighty words of (1:1).
What the gospels give to us in spoken form, the book of Revelation gives us in pictorial form. It has been said that the book of Revelation is the outworking of what Jesus told Peter in (Matthew 16:18). If the gospels comprise a still photograph, the book of Revelation is the movie.
Just as the Bible begins with God (Genesis 1:1), so it ends with God (Revelation 1:1) (Revelation 22:21). The focus is Theological, that is, it is about Jesus Christ and His glory. Three things are said of John’s witness to this Revelation of Jesus Christ (1:2). (1.)…..”Who bore witness to the word.” (2.)…..”Who bore witness to the testimony of Jesus Christ.” (3.)…..”Who bore record to all things that he saw.” What an amazing thing God has done for His church that through John the Apostle the future glory of Christ would be presented to us (Philippians 2:9-11).
What an encouragement to you and I, that we would take serious effort to read, study, and meditate on what is written in the Revelation of Jesus Christ. Why? Because there remains a promise of blessing for those who “read” and “hear” the words of this prophecy, and who keep those things which are written in it. I hope as you read this devotion you are also compelled to dig into God’s revelation of His Son. So do it! Start today because the time of our Lord’s return is near.
