(Revelation 1:4-6)…..4 John, to the seven churches which are in Asia:
Grace to you and peace from Him who is and who was and who is to come, and from the seven Spirits who are before His throne, 5 and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler over the kings of the earth. To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood, 6 and has made us kings and priests to His God and Father, to Him beglory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.
Who is this Faithful Witness who’s name is Jesus? He is the “firstborn from the dead.” The One who is head of the church is the One who bears that title (Colossians 1:15-18) (Psalm 89:27). It is Jesus’ resurrection that is the glorious event of God’s Scriptures (Psalm 2:7) (Acts 13:33-34). It was at Christ’s resurrection that His divine Sonship as the God-man was manifested (proven) to us (Romans 1:4), and by doing so, showing Him to be the ruler over all the kings of the earth. Do you know what is comforting about this truth? That with all the crazy things happening today in our world with crazy politicians, the progressive move towards a one world government, the war on race, the condoning of sinful lifestyles, the approval of abortion, and eventually the coming of the anti-christ’s rule, etc., there is only One who rules over all. Nope, it is not a Democrat, a Republican, a king, or a governor, it is Jesus Christ and Him alone. He is the one that each of us will stand before and give an account of what we have done, both good and bad. He alone is King! He alone is Lord! There is no-one sovereign but Him (Psalm 2:2,9) (Romans 14:11) (Ephesians 1:19-23) (1 Timothy 6:15).
Just what has the King done? Specifically, what has He done for us?
- He loved us – (Galatians 2:20) (Romans 8:37-39) (Ephesians 2:4-5).
- He has washed us of our sins in His own blood – (John 13:8-10) (1 Corinthians 6:11) (Hebrews 9:14). What an incredible act of love!
- He has made us kings and priests to His God and Father. Wow! What an amazing thing He has done for us who are undeserving of such status. Think about that for a moment. This can be translated that “He has made us a kingdom” (1 Peter 2:4-10).
It is the Lord Jesus who has glory and dominion forever and ever. What shall we do about this? Praise Him! Thank Him for your salvation! If that is something that you do not possess yet then, repent of your sin, and sin nature, and turn to Him by believing on Him. But think about this devotion today and realize just what the Faithful Witness has done, is doing, and will do for you.
