(Revelation 1:7-9)…..7 Behold, He is coming with clouds, and every eye will see Him, even they who pierced Him. And all the tribes of the earth will mourn because of Him. Even so, Amen. 8 “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End,” says the Lord, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.”
The greatest event that man will ever see will be the return of Jesus Christ to this earth because this will be an event where every eye will see Him. What a wonderful day that will be for those in glory and those alive on earth. I know I am looking forward to that day as I imagine you are too. Jesus’ return is one of the major doctrines that we are promised in Scripture, and it will be a time of extreme excitement for the redeemed in Christ, but a time of great fear for the ungodly (2 Thessalonians 1:3-10). If you are looking for His return you are blessed (2 Timothy 4:8).
The Scriptures have a lot to say about the return of Christ (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18) (2 Thessalonians 2:1-14). The apostle Peter taught this doctrine (1 Peter 1:3-7), James taught it (James 5:7-8), Paul taught it (Romans 13:11). We know from Scripture that Jesus’ return will be with “flaming fire” – again look at (2 Thessalonians 1:7-8). But He will also be coming with all His holy angles (Matthew 25:31), can you imagine what an incredible sight that will be. Wow! He will be coming in the clouds, in much the same way as when He left after His death on the cross (Acts 1:6-11).
What I really want you to take notice of in our text this morning is that every eye will see Him, even those who pierced Him. His glory will be completely visible to every eye (Matthew 24:29-31) (Revelation 6:12-17). This includes the Jewish nation (those who pierced Him). And what will happen then? There will be great mourning because of the Revelation of Christ in the clouds when they realize that Jesus was and is their Messiah.
Who is it that will be returning to this earth? The King of kings and the LORD of lords. The very one who is the “Alpha and the Omega,” the “beginning and the end,” “who is,” “who was,” and “who is to come.” Is He coming back for you? If your faith rests in the finished work of Jesus Christ, then the answer is yes. If you have not repented of your sin, and have not believed in Jesus Christ then when the sky opens up to reveal His immediate coming, be very scared because that day will not be good for you. Today believe on Jesus Christ so that when He returns it will a joyous event for you.
