(Matthew 18:4)….. Whoever therefore humbles himself as this little child, the same is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven.
Sometimes I think we think of ourselves more highly than we ought to. We are so busy, so self-willed, so comfortable, so self-absorbed, so confident, that we think we can live, move, everyday through our own strength and will. Living each day high on pride, and low on obedience. We start to believe that we can do all things without the Lord. We think in this world that to become great we must become an independent, strong, self-reliant person. How much do you and I need Jesus Christ? Our very life depends on Him. If so, how much fellowship do I need with Him? Do we need His word? You would say very much! So how much of it do I study and meditate on? Do we need fellowship with one another? You would say of course Pastor! Where are we when there is a Bible Study to be partaken of? Or when the church doors open, are we there? When did the church get so prideful that she could live each day as if they didn’t need her Lord, her Savior. Maybe a dose of humility is needed in us.
Hudson Taylor was scheduled to speak at a Large Presbyterian church in Melbourne, Australia. The moderator of the service introduced him in the most eloquent and glowing terms. He told the large congregation all that Taylor had accomplished in China, and then presented him as “our illustrious guest.” Taylor stood quietly for a moment, and then opened his message by saying, “Dear friends, I am the little servant of an illustrious Master.”

If we want to do great things for the Lord, it is crucial that we become humble before Him! When we realize that we are but little servants of an illustrious Master, it is then that God will use us in a mighty way. After all, it is not our agendas, ourpurposes, our plans that God wants to bless, it’s God’s agenda, God’s plan, God’s purpose for our lives that He will bless to overflowing!
Let’s humble ourselves before the Lord today and get our minds set on His purpose instead of our own.
