One of my favorite passages in God’s word is (Psalm 2). This Psalm speaks to the eternal, powerful, unchanging rule of God. (Psalm 2) is a Messianic Psalm, that is, it is a prophesy of Jesus Christ the Messiah hundreds of years before He was born into this world. This psalm not only spoke powerfully in the day it was written, but it speaks powerfully and prophetically to us as the Church today. No matter how dark the times, how wicked nations become, we can rest with assurance that Jesus Christ the Righteous King, still reigns as Lord and Ruler over all the Earth (Matthew 28:18) (Colossians 1:15-18). His Righteousness and His justice will be made known to all God’s creation (Philippians 2:5-11).
Notice David’s question, ““Why do the heathen rage (ban together), and the people plot (plan) a vain thing?” The heathen are the unbelieving, those who reject the living God, His Word, everything associated with His Kingdom. Even today the heathen are given to unbelief and hardness against the Living God and His Son Christ Jesus by mocking, belittling, and persecuting those who have faith in Jesus Christ. The wicked plot in vain , that is they plan to undermine God, His Word, His authority – etc., in all man’s planning, it is a vain (worthless) attempt.
The wicked do not want to be under the authority of Jesus Christ, they will take counsel against the LORD and against His Anointed (Messiah). Who are these “kings and rulers” who take counsel together to rid themselves of God’s anointed (Matthew 12:9-14)(Matthew 26:1-5)(Matthew 27:1-2)(Mark 11:15-19)(Luke 19:14). This is more clearly seen in – (Acts 4:13-31).
