(Psalm 37:23-26)…..The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, and He delights in his way. 24 Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down; For the Lord upholds him with His hand. 25 I have been young, and now am old; Yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his descendants begging bread. 26 He is ever merciful, and lends; And his descendants are blessed.
The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord. That means that the steps of a good man are (led – established – guided – directed) by the Lord. We see this in Scripture such as (Psalm 25:5) (Psalm 32:8) (Psalm 40:1-2) (Psalm 48:14) (Psalm 121:8) (Isaiah 48:17). Everything that pertains to the life of a good man is, ordered, directed, and arranged by the Lord to be under His guidance and control. How can one miss the Sovereign control that God has over our lives with promises like this?
But, how do you know if you are getting God’s clear directions? Here are activities that might help, with Scripture that supports.
- Acknowledge the LORD God – (Proverbs 3:5-6)
- Be in God’s word (learn from Him) – (Matthew 11:29)
- Which the early disciples were careful to follow – (Acts 2:42)
- Which the Christians were commanded to follow – (2 Thessalonians 2:15)
- Pray!
- Look at the prayer of David – a man after God’s own heart – (Psalm 25:1-4) (Psalm 119:136)
- Take God at His word when you pray – (Psalm 32:8)
Yet there are manmade pathways that would lead us astray such as doctrines of men (Matthew 15:8-9). Or philosophies of men (Colossians 2:6-10). Because God had ordered the steps of a good (righteous) man, He is delighted when we walk in them. So sure are the steps, so delighted is the Lord in their outcome, that when we do fall and stumble, God will not utterly cast us down, for the Lord upholds us with (in) His hand. In these verses, notice that there are four great blessings for the righteous……They are:
- I have not seen the righteous forsaken – (37:25)
- Nor his descendants begging bread – (Psalm 37:25)
- He is ever merciful all day) and lends (it means we are to show mercy instead of begging for mercy)
- His descendants are blessed – (37:26)
Today, remember that our God is forever merciful, and He lends (gives) to us everything we could ever need.
We are blessed!
