The Rock Of My Refuge

Posted on July 27, 2021July 27, 2021
Daily Devotion With Pastor Dan Nickerson – July 27th, 2021

I want you to notice what the Psalmist says in (Psalm 94:22)…..But the LORD has been my defense, and my God the rock of my refuge. Many people have experienced a time when they have fought with, or had contention with someone else, whether it has been physical, spiritual, or emotional. A time when we have felt as if we were being overwhelmed by our adversary. This is how David felt in (Psalm 35) where David is hurting, in despair, and troubled over his enemies constant attacks. But David in the midst of such a battle, with his confidence down, asks the LORD for protection (Psalm 35:1-2). The shield was an instrument of defense, so David understood that God was his only defense, his only help (Psalm 5:12) (Psalm 28:6-7) (Psalm 119:114) (Psalm 144:2) (Proverbs 30:5).

God surrounds us as a shield and keeps us by His protection. However, in our culture people tend to look to the worldly things for stability and hope. The truth is all that the world has to offer us for stability will fail us, and leave us discouraged, frustrated, and in despair. Listen, there is a Rock we can trust, Who is stable! A Rock that will not change no matter what comes our way (Hebrews 13:8). God alone was David’s Rock of strength (Psalm 18:1-2, 31, 46) (Psalm 62:1-7). God alone must be our Rock of strength. We must trust Him and Him alone when we are faced with the troubles and temptations of this life (Psalm 40:1-3). He plucked the believer out of his sins and set his feet upon a rock, firm, strong and unmovable. As the hymn goes, “On this solid rock I stand ,all other ground is sinking sand.” Rejoice in this if you are a Christian!

Can you and I trust that God will answer us the same way in difficult times? YES! The LORD is our strength (Psalm 46:1-3). He is the saving refuge (strength) of His anointed – (Psalm 20:6). I want to remind you this morning that you can cry out to God for anything and He will hear, He will answer, He is our Rock (solid – unmovable Savior) – will we trust Him?
