God’s promises are sometimes not on the same timetable as we would want, but His promises to us are real, true, and reliable. The character of God’s promises are just as faithful today. The character of God makes every promise of God, sure, full of hope for the righteous. His promises are sure, faithful, enduring, everlasting, without end, incapable of not being fulfilled. We know this because God has always kept His promises to men.
- Noah – (Genesis 6:17-18)
- Abraham – (Genesis 17:19) (Romans 4:20-21)
- Moses — delivered the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt
- David — established his throne
- Daniel — delivered from the lions den
- God kept His promise of bringing the Messiah into the world – (Galatians 4:4-5)
- God kept His promise to His only begotten Son – Jesus – (Psalm 16:10) (Acts 2:31-32)
- Because God kept his promise to Jesus – we can be sure God will keep His promise to us – (Romans 6:5)
His promises to the faithful, to the righteous, are incredible to say the least. For example…..
- Our hope rests upon the promises of God – (Colossians 1:5) (1 Timothy 1:1)
- Our hope is based on our faith in God – (Hebrews 11:1)
- To the faithful He promises freedom from sin – (John 8:32)
- To the faithful He promises forgiveness of sins – (Acts 2:38)
- He promises that the faithful are His children – (Romans 8:15-17)
- He promises to take care of the righteous – (Matthew 6:33)
- He promises to give us abundant life through Jesus – (John 10:10)
- He promises a new glorious resurrected body – (1 Corinthians 15:51-52)
- He promises that we shall be like Him and see Him as He is – (1 John 3:2)
- He promises eternal life – (1 John 2:25)
What is it that makes God’s promises to us so sure and absolute? It is God’s immutability. This means that God cannot change in his attributes, in His essence, or in His very being. Secondly, He cannot change in His ethical commitments that are an extension of His own moral nature. God is loving, He cannot be not loving, God is just; He cannot be unjust, God is omnipotent, He cannot lack power. Of all of the attributes that are true of God, He cannot be other than who He is as God, His very nature. His very moral nature requires that when he makes a commitment He is bound to it. Give the Lord praise for that (Malachi 3:6).
So remember Christian, because God is truth, and because God is faithful, when He makes a pledge or a covenant or a promise because of his character, and because He cannot lie, He will keep and do what He has said (Hebrews 6:13-18) (Titus 1:2) (Psalm 102:25-27) (Malachi 3:6) (Hebrews 1:10-11) (James 1:17). The promises of God are sure and full of hope for the righteous. If you are a Christian, How have you regarded the promises of God? Do you believe them? Do you believe His promises for you? May it be!
