(Habakkuk 3:1-4)…..A prayer of Habakkuk the prophet, on Shigionoth.
2 O Lord, I have heard Your speech and was afraid; O Lord, revive Your work in the midst of the years! In the midst of the years make it known; In wrath remember mercy. 3 God came from Teman, The Holy One from Mount Paran. Selah
His glory covered the heavens, and the earth was full of His praise. 4 His brightness was like the light; He had rays flashing from His hand, and there His power was hidden.
Habakkuk is scared, he is afraid, and he is terrified. Why? Because God answered Habakkuk, and he heard His speech in (Habakkuk 1:5-11) (Habakkuk 2:2-20). Literally means, “Lord, I have heard Your report and I am afraid” (take note of 3:16). Imagine having God speak to you! – What would that be like? Yet He has (Hebrews 1:1-4). When God speaks to young I, whether through His Word or through prayer, what is your response? Is it, “Oh well, that was nice,” or does it produce a quivering of the lip? (Psalm 34:8-10) (Psalm 89:1-7). What is your response when you hear verses like these?
I want to tell you there’s a lack of fear (reverence) of God in the world today! (Psalm 36:1) says.….An oracle within my heart concerning the transgression of the wicked: There is no fear of God before his eyes. Even some professing Christians no longer “fear” (reverence) the Lord. Jesus is considered a buddy who allows for our continued sin. For many the Holy Spirit’s leadings are weighed according to how well they fit into their lifestyle or busy schedule. Even the purpose of prayer is to get things from God, not to know Him better and receive from Him wisdom and instruction. Listen, our culture plugs along with absolutely no reverence, no respect for Almighty God. Many individuals and congregations have lost their reverence and respect of God and gone astray from His will. May that not be us! May we be like: (Joshua 24:14-15) (Isaiah 6:1-5) (Isaiah 8:13-14) (Isaiah 66:1-2). As His ambassador’s to this world, we must conduct our daily lives in reverent awe of God and His word. Where are you with that? Remember, “those in awe of God are never bored in church.”
