God speaks to us loudly through His creation, and in it He reveals His glory and His handiwork (Psalm 19:1-4). It also reveals His eternal power and divine nature (Romans 1:19-20). Through the intelligent design of the universe God says, “I exist!” How well do we listen? Do we take the time to consider the wonders of the creation? The Psalmist took time to contemplate them (Psalm 8:3) (Psalm 104:24-25) (Psalm 139:14). It prompted Einstein to believe in “an Intelligence that produced the integrative complexity of creation.” The intelligent design of the universe prompted even a prominent atheist to become a deist (Anthony Flew). If we open our eyes to the world around us, we will say “I believe!” Through His creation we can know that God exists. But what does this Supreme Being desire of us? What does He want us to know or do? For
God speaks to us loudly through His word. God’s voice in His word is designed to produce faith (trust, conviction) (Romans 10:17). Fulfilled prophecy is designed to produce faith in God (Isaiah 42:8-9) (Isaiah 44:6-8) (Isaiah 45:18-21) (Isaiah 46:9-11). Eyewitness testimony offers evidence to believe in Jesus (Acts 10:39-42) (1 John 1:1-4) (2 Peter 1:15-16). Through His Providence, God’s Word has spread to every nation and is translated into virtually every language (Romans 10:17-18). The evidence which attests to its authenticity as a historical document far surpasses any other ancient document (such as those by Socrates, Plato, Homer, etc.). It is through His Word God says of Jesus, “This is My Beloved Son, Hear Him!” But let me ask, “How well do we listen? It was written to produce faith in Jesus (John 20:30-31). Do we take the time to read the Word of God? The Bereans did (Acts 17:11). David also, and praised it highly (Psalm 19:7-11) (Psalm 119:97-105). We have so much more of God’s Word than did David, shouldn’t we read it? If we open our ears to the Word of God, we will say “I believe in Jesus!”
The pinnacle of these truths is that God speaks to us loudly through His Son. God now speaks through His Son Jesus (Hebrews 1:1-2). Through Jesus God has manifested Himself fully to us (Hebrews 1:3)(John 1:14-18). The life, teachings, death, and resurrection of Jesus have changed history. Countless lives and entire nations have been affected by the sending of His Son, and it is through His Son, God says “This is who I Am, this is what I desire of you” Here I must ask again, “How well do we listen? Do we listen to what Jesus reveals about God (John 14:6-9)? Do we heed His warnings regarding eternal life? (Matthew 7:13-14) (Matthew 7:21-23). As Jesus said so often, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear!”(Mark 4:9). If we will but listen to Jesus, we will say “You have the wordsof eternal life!”
