“God is the Rock of my salvation.” That title occurs several times in the Old Testament (Deuteronomy 32:15) (2 Samuel 22:47) (Psalm 89:26) and in our text (Psalm 95:1)(Psalm 62:6-7) (Psalm 121:1-4). In each case the expression evokes a sense of security. God is secure, and is trustworthy, He is the rock-solid Savior
So it’s with this invitation that the Psalmist would imply – “Let us greet our God” – let us come to Him with a joyful shout – Whose power has been manifested in the deliverance of His people with the anthems and acclamations (Psalm 47:1) (Psalm 66:1-2) (Psalm 94:22).
During O.T. times specific knowledge about Jesus had not yet been realized. So saying…..“God is the Rock of my salvation” was not completely understood as to salvation through the blood of Christ. Holy men of God recognized Jehovah God as Creator of all things and as the rock of their salvation. Men would refer to everyday – regular types of salvation (deliverance) – done in physical ways – such as from – enemies – disease – danger – and to those major deliverances that are specifically interpreted as being a part of God’s involvement in human history
Thayer’s Greek Dictionary: to save – to keep safe and sound, to rescue from danger or destruction
Physically: to save a suffering one (from perishing) – to make well – heal – to restore spiritually: For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost – (Luke 19:10)
This salvation brings with it
1. Redemption – (1 Peter 1:18-19)
2. Forgiveness – (Acts 10:43)
3. Justification – (Romans 3:24)
