It is called….
- The gospel of Christ (1:16) (2 Corinthian 2:12)
- The gospel of the kingdom (Matthew 24:14)
- The gospel of the grace of God (Acts 20:24)
- The gospel of your salvation (Ephesians 1:13)
- The gospel of peace (Ephesians 6:15)
- The mystery of Christ (Ephesians 3:1-7)
- The gospel of the glory of Christ (2 Corinthians 4:4)
We who have been given the gospel, who have believed its message, are blessed beyond measure. God’s gospel was promised before through His prophets in the Holy Scriptures (1 Peter 1:6-12). God’s gospel concerns His Son Jesus Christ. It was on the night of Christ’s birth that the angel announced….. (Luke 2:10).….“Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. “For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. It was news of great joy, not just because a child was born, but because a Savior was born, the long awaited Messiah!
It is not a teaching or a moral system to follow, a list of do’s and don’ts. It is all about Him, Christ is the center, the heart, the very substance of the gospel of God. He is the gospel Himself! He was born of the seed of David, prophetically giving Him the right to David’s throne (Psalm 89:3-4) (Isaiah 11:1-5). Being born of the flesh meant He would also live, suffer, and die in the flesh, which He did for you and me.
Many people make claims that they can’t back up – not true of Jesus. He was declared to be the Son of God with power – according to the Spirit of holiness, by the resurrection of the dead. The evidence of Jesus’ humanity is His human birth; the evidence of His deity is His resurrection from the dead. No man came to his grave to resuscitate Him. He didn’t come out of the grave limping on His pierced feet or holding His side. His resurrection was a public manifestation that He was God’s only begotten Son (John 2:18-22) (John 10:14-18). Where would we be if He hadn’t risen (1 Corinthians 15:12-19, 20) (1 Corinthians 15:1-8)? This is “good news”
