In the Lord I put my trust; how can you say to my soul, “Flee as a bird to your mountain”? 2 For look! The wicked bend their bow, they make ready their arrow on the string, that they may shoot secretly at the upright in heart. 3 If the foundations are destroyed, What can the righteous do? 4 The Lord is in His holy temple, the Lord’s throne is in heaven; His eyes behold, His eyelids test the sons of men. 5 The Lord tests the righteous, but the wicked and the one who loves violence His soul hates.
In this Psalm David appears to be responding to the fear of those around him who want him to flee from trouble. Look at what (Psalm:11:1-3) says to us,….How can you say to my soul, “flee as a bird to your mountain”? For look! The wicked bend their bow, they make ready their arrow on the string, that they may shoot secretly at the upright in heart. If the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?
- Notice – David’s response to the fearful – (11:1)….In the LORD I put my trust….
What can we learn from the Scriptures of David’s trust in God? From (Psalm 56) – we learn that David would place his trust in God to help him (Psalm 56:3-4) (Psalm 56:8-11). From (Psalm 59) – we learn that David would continue praising God for His help (Psalm 59:16-17) (Psalm 63:3-5). Even so, today God wants us to put our trust in Him (James 4:7-9) (1 Peter 5:6-7).
Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your paths – (Proverbs 3:5-6)
