Where does one go for help when everything around him seems against him and falling apart? We know the answer to this, it’s Christ, but he is not always our first recourse, not usually anyway for some, even though we know better. This past week I was blessed to see a brother in Christ say goodbye to his wife all the while knowing that he will see her again someday. In this trial I watched as he continually would give praise to God, as he prayed to the Lord, leaning on Him for every ounce of strength he could receive. And of course God supplied in His abundance as always. I have a brother in Christ that is asking God for a new heart (physically) so that he can spend more time on this earth with his loved ones, and yet has an incredible prayer life and a trust for whatever the Lord has planned for him. How do these men stand every day? Because the Lord makes them to stand? Absolutely! But it is also because of what they learned of God in their prayer life. They knew who to call on when things in life became tough, because they sought God in prayer and devotion before trouble came.
We should always go to God in prayer, much like we see in David (Psalm 4:1) (Psalm 5:1-3) (Psalm 17:1-2,6) (Psalm 38:15). We need to remember to pray to God, not just when we are in trouble. He is the only One who can vindicate us help us (Colossians 4:2-4) (Romans 12:9-13).
What is amazing about these brothers of mine, is they are in many ways like David (King David) in that he knew that God would answer him (though not always the way he wanted). We have the same promise in our prayer life (1 John 5:14-15). When we are facing troubles let us always remember to go to God in prayer (1 Peter 5:6-7). As with David, God knows what His children are going through and He is there to help. He waits to hear from you, so make prayer a big part of your life with the Lord.
