When we make our plans each week, or each day, they should be made with God’s approval. “We ought to say, “If the Lord wills.” Jesus and Paul are examples for us in this area (Matthew 26:42) (Acts 18:21) (1 Corinthians 16:7). In saying “if the Lord wills” it demonstrates faith in two things:
- That God does have a will for us (even in the smallest matters)
- That God can intervene (in any area of our life) to carry out His will.
And it is true that God’s will, will not be altered by us (Colossians 1:16-17). Why? Because He alone is Sovereign! We need to discern God’s will, then plan accordingly. This is possible because God wants us to….
- Understand His Will – (Ephesians 5:15-21)
- Be filled with the knowledge of His Will – (Colossians 1:9-12)
- Prove His Will – (Romans 12:1-2)
- Each of these relates to His “revealed” will for us, which is found in the pages of the Bible, this is why we need to know God’s word
- When we know God’s “revealed” will then we can act or plan accordingly
