(Psalm 1)…..How blessed is the man that walketh not in the council of the ungodly. Walketh (walks) speaks of one’s lifestyle, whoever this person is, he/she is blessed if he is not walking as a habit of life in the council of the ungodly. That asks the question, who are the ungodly (wicked)?
- They look for evil – (Proverbs 16:27)
- They want to distort the grace and existence of God – (Jude 3-4)
What is the council of the ungodly? – The word – council – means – the advice or the purposes of those who are hostile to God. With all the advice that comes to us from so many different sources – so many don’t even consider if the counsel they get is godly or ungodly. The righteous man knows where to find completely godly counsel – (Psalm 119:24)
(Psalm 1)…..Nor standeth (stands) in the way of sinners. What does this mean? The word standeth (stands) means to take one’s position (firmly) with the idea of applying the advice of ungodly council to one’s own behavior (2 Corinthians 6:11-18).
(Psalm 1)…..Nor sitteth (sits) in the seat of the scornful. First comes the danger of listening to the ungodly, then talking the side of the sinner, now sitting in the company of the scornful, the mockers of God. You will either be the object of their mockery or you will sit with them in the seat of the scornful, the scornful despise the revealed will of God and scorn those who do His will, as well as the authority of His Word. A person cannot be blessed at all who willfully violates God’s truth while getting advice and walking in that advice from those, who by nature hate God. Blessed is the man/woman who does not walk in the state of mind which the ungodly cherish, that scoffs at the very worship of God. Nope! May cannot be us!
