With a willingness to deny self and bear one’s own cross on a daily basis, one must be willing to do something that will take every day, if not every moment, of your life. It must be the passion that drives your very life. It is what you wake up for every morning, and bound from bed with the expectation of something grand as you begin your conversation with the Lord. You must be driven with all your being to…..
Follow Jesus
But what does involve? It’s not easy by any stretch, but it is worth it all when you find yourself in it. Being discipled in Jesus Christ means we seek to become like Him (Luke 6:40) (Romans 8:29) (Romans 13:14). It means to submit to Him as Lord, and do what His word says (Luke 6:46) (Colossians 3:17). To walk in His footsteps, even at great cost (1 Peter 2:21-25).
We are to obey the gospel of Christ (Matthew 28:19) (Mark 16:15-16) (Acts 2:38) (Acts 22:16). In doing so we are to observe all He and His apostles commanded (Matthew 28:20) (Acts 2:42) (1 Corinthians 14:37). All this as we grow in the grace and knowledge of Christ (2 Peter 3:18).
The cost of discipleship may seem rather high at times. But one must deny self, one must take up one’s cross, and one must follow Jesus. Does this sound hard? It is going to take every bit of your heart, desire, and will to do it. Jesus tells us that there are only two choices in (Mark 8:35), one can try to save his life himself, but will end up losing it (John 8:24), and one can lose his life for Jesus’ sake and the gospel’s, and wind up saving it (Revelation 2:10). In view of eternity, there is only one viable choice: endure the high cost of discipleship, and receive the blessings of eternal life.
