You know sometimes we forget to stop and rejoice in the things God does in us and for us on a daily basis. Here we are, with the command in (1 Thessalonians 5:18) to rejoice always, and we find ourselves rarely engaging in praise. Lord please open our eyes today to praise. Let our lips offer their sacrifice of precious fruit that you may hear it and enjoy it. Let’s start today then praise! Here are a few things we can praise our God and Father for today.
(Psalm 18:1-3)…..I will love You, O Lord, my strength. 2 The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; My God, my strength, in whom I will trust; My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. 3 I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised; So shall I be saved from my enemies.
1. God Is Our Stability – David describes God as his Rock. When everything in the world is chaotic, God is always stable (Malachi 3:6).
2. God Is Our Safety – David says that God is his my fortress. The Lord us a place of safety for the saint in times of adversity and trial (Psalm. 57:1).
3. God Is Our Savior – David refers to the Lord as his deliverer. It means one who saves, one who rescues, one who delivers another from danger God does not just save us when we receive Him by faith, but He goes on saving us day by day (1 John 1:7).
4. God Is Our Sovereign – David refers to Him his God. This is the word “El” and refers to God as the Almighty God, the Sovereign One (Isaiah 5:16) (Isaiah 45:5-7) (Psalm 50:1).
5. God Is Our Strength – David tells us that God is my strength. None of us knows what we will face as we go through the years of our lives, but we can know that God in Heaven will give us the strength we need (Psalm 46:1-7) (Isaiah 43:1-3).
6. God Is Our Shield – David calls the Lord his shield. When trouble comes into your life and mine, sometimes the Lord will allow those things to come and He will give grace. There are times when the Lord steps between His children and their trials and acts as a shield between His child and the storm that is coming.
7. God Is Our Security – Here the Lord is called the horn of his salvation. The horn is the symbol of strength and conquest. When David calls God the horn of his salvation, he is saying that the Lord is the strength of his salvation, and that in His salvation he has absolute security (John 6:38-41) (1 Peter 1:5). The LORD didn’t save you to lose you along the way, but He did save you to take you to Heaven.
8. God Is Our Supply – David says that the Lord is his stronghold (his High Tower). This refers to the great towers that were built around the ancient cities. When the soldiers ran to the high tower they were above the battle, in a place of rest, with ready supplies. God is the same for every child of God. When the battle rages about us we can run to Him and be lifted above our battles, find the rest, and gain the refreshment we need to be able to continue in battle.
Everything God is for David, he is for you who believe the gospel of Jesus Christ. Is this not enough to praise God, to rejoice in Him, this day, right now? Maybe you don’t know what it means to speak of God this way because you are not sure you are saved, or that you are His. Why not come and bow before Him and surrender your life to the One who can keep you, to the one that constantly took care of king David, and will take care of you. Then you will have much to be thankful for, and much to praise Him for.
