Steve and Rebecca McMath work with the Wycliffe Bible Translators. They met while serving at Bible Camp. Steve McMath served in the Marine Corps. He was introduced to JAARS (Jungle Aviation and Radio Service) and the important role of aviation and technology in missions. Steve and Rebecca married and started planning to serve in the field of missionary aviation, while Steve was still in the Marine Corps. After getting out of the military in 2016, Steve attended aircraft maintenance training at Moody Bible Institute. The McMaths have returned to Moody Bible Institute in Spokane, Washington to train and help the next missionary pilots and mechanics who will help to translate Bibles in isolated areas. Steve will serve as an aircraft mechanic for Wycliffe. Rebecca grew up attending Rathdrum Bible Church with her parents, Sam and Betty Cooper. They also have one daughter named Deborah.
Wycliffe Bible Translators:
History: Wycliffe started in 1917 when a missionary named William Cameron Townsend went to Guatemala to sell Bibles written in Spanish. But many people in Guatemala spoke Cakchiquel, a language without a Bible. He believed everyone should have access to the Bible, so he started a linguistics school (Summer Institute of Linguistics or SIL) that trained people to translate Bibles. In 1942 Cameron founded Wycliffe Bible Translators, officially.
