(Colossians 1:9-12)…..9 For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; 10 that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; 11 strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, for all patience and longsuffering with joy; 12 giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light.
Most Christians yearn to grow spiritually; to be stronger, to resist temptation more fervently, to walk with Christ more fully. The devil is our constant adversary, diverting us, discouraging us, and diminishing our faith in the strength of the Lord (Ephesians 6:10). Here are some ways to help us grow.
I. DESIRE TO GROW, PRAY, AND LEARN TO GROW – (Ephesians 3:14-19) (Colossians 1:9-12) (Philippians 1:9–11). Follow up by acting on your prayers (Philippians 3:13-14). Lay aside hindrances and sin (Hebrews 12:1-2).
II. READ GOD’S WORD OFTEN – (Hebrews 4:12-13). Put God’s word in your heart (Psalm 119:11) (Psalm 37:30-31). The Bible is our life manual (2 Timothy 3:16-17).
III. CHOOSE GOOD FRIENDS – Influence of friends is strong (1 Corinthians 15:33-34). We learn from our companions (Proverbs 22:24-25). Spouse the most influential of all (1 Kings 11:4) (1 Corinthians 7:33).
IV. THINK THE RIGHT THINGS – We are what we think (Proverbs 23:7). We do what we think (Philippians 4:8). We strive for our goals (objectives) (Colossians 3:1-4).
VI. WORSHIP OFTEN – Continue steadfastly in worship (Acts 2:42). Praising God, teaching and admonishing (Colossians 3:16). Edification in assembled worship (1 Corinthians 14:3, 5, 12, 15-17, 26). You cannot be strong (edified) by sporadic worship (1 out of 3 times a week) (Hebrews 10:24-25). We need to be ager to worship (Psalm 122:1-2) (Acts 2:42).
May God help us to grow, as we commit ourselves to His ways of doing so.
