The power and authority that Jesus has as King that He can redeem us and forgive us from sin and death is absolutely amazing. But to be translated into the Kingdom of Christ at the moment we believe the gospel is even more amazing. After all, Jesus Christ is the King of kings, and He is Lord of lords. Jesus is proclaimed to be a King, He claimed to have a kingdom, He even came into this world to proclaim the truth that He is a king (John 18:36-37). After His resurrection, He claimed the extent of His rule (Matthew 28:18) (Ephesians 1:15-23). This is not something new that we should be surprised because His Kingship and Kingdom are proclaimed in the book of Revelation (Revelation 1:5) (17:14) (19:16).
It is through the blood of this King (the only Sovereign) that a person obtains redemption and forgiveness (Colossians 1:14). There is no other way. The word “redemption” (Greek – apol-u-tros-is) means, a releasing effected by payment of ransom; we have been “released” from the bondage of sin through the payment of Jesus’ blood shed on the cross (Matthew 20:28).
The word “forgiveness” (Greek – aphesis) means, freedom, pardon, deliverance, forgiveness, liberty, remission, a release from bondage or imprisonment. In Christ we have forgiveness or pardon of sins (letting them go as if they had never been committed). We have the remission of the penalty (wrath – death). So a King capable of providing redemption and forgiveness from sins screams out His pre-eminence. Have you bowed to the King this morn (Psalm 2) (Philippians 2:11).
