What Did Jesus Do?

Posted on April 3, 2023April 3, 2023

The crucifixion of Jesus was probably the most terrible event in world history because it was an – excruciating, painful, and shameful way to die. Along with the physical suffering there was the spiritual agony. Jesus was mocked, beaten, scourged, spit upon, and forsaken. But for what purpose? Why Did Jesus have to die?

  1. Jesus died because of sin!
  • As foretold in Scripture – He died for our sins – (Isaiah 53:4-6 (1 Corinthians 15:1-4)
  • He gave Himself for our sins – (Galatians 1:3-5)
  • He bore our sins on the cross – (1 Peter 2:21-25)
  • When we think of the crucifixion – let’s remember that our own sin (personally) is what He came to put away
  1. Jesus died because of love
  • The love of the Father for lost sinners – (John 3:16-17) (Romans 5:8) (Ephesians 5:1-2)
  • We can now understand the meaning of true love – (1 John 3:16) (John 15:13)
  1. Jesus died because He is the only hope for sinful man
  • He is the only way back to the Father – (John 14:6) (Acts 4:12)
  • Deny the Son, and one does not have the Father – (1 John 2:23)
  • Abide in His doctrine – and one has both the Father and the Son – (2 John 9)
  1. What did Jesus accomplish at the cross
  • He condemned sin in the flesh – fulfilling the righteousness of the law in us – through His death – (Romans 8:1-4)
  • Now making it possible for those who are believers to crucify the sinful passions of the flesh – (Galatians 5:22-24)

Today would you give the Lord praise from your lips for His saving of you?
