We have many reasons as Christians to not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord Jesus Christ. For one, He is a great and marvelous Lord, and for two, His gospel is a great and marvelous message. Our greatest concern should be whether we will be ashamed when the Lord returns:
- (1 John 2:28)….And now, little children, abide in Him, that when He appears, we may have confidence and not be ashamed before Him at His coming.
We have seen and heard in Paul’s words to Timothy – the charge regarding his duties as one called into service and gifted by our Lord Jesus Christ, to stir up the gift of God given him (1:6), and to not be ashamed of the testimony of the Lord, or of those who suffer for Him (1:8).
And now – as the word tells us….(1:13)….Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus. This describes the duty that we have today regarding what has been taught by the apostles of Christ. Whether or not we have the gift of teaching or are a pastor or evangelists by calling, our duty is the same, we too must hold fast to sound words (true – good doctrine). Is that what you are doing? May it be so!
