(Luke 2:25-35)
Simeon gives us some reasons for praising our Lord, because of who he has seen (v.26-30). Simeon had been told that he would not die until He had seen the Lord’s Christ, and so when he did Simeon begins to praise the Lord because of Who had entered the world. Just who was this Baby? He is identified here as “the Lord’s Christ.” Simeon understood Who He was because the Holy Spirit was upon him. The shepherds knew Who He was also, and the angels in heaven knew Who He was, but the priest who circumcised Him did not know. The other people in the Temple that day did not know. The people in Bethlehem did not know Who this very special Baby was. It’s sad, but most people alive today do not know Who this Child was or is (1 Peter 1;13-21). The question this morning is do you? He is the only Savior of sinners and the only Way to God (Acts 4:12) (1 John 5:12).
