Our Sufficiency Is From God

Posted on January 1, 2021January 1, 2021
Daily Devotion With Pastor Dan Nickerson – January 1st, 2020

The year 2020 will probably go down in the history books as the year mankind rose to his highest potential with science and their reasoning that they do not need God to fight pandemics. Oh how man has become the fool when he thinks that he can do everything without God. Man has the problem of thinking that all that is in him is adequate (sufficient) for his life to flourish. But this is not so! The Scriptures tell us a different truth, the real truth, (2 Corinthians 3:5)…..Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think of anything as being from ourselves, but our sufficiency is from God…..

I thought I would start this New Year of 2021 with a quote from A.B. Simpson’s book “Days of Heaven on Earth,” that speaks to the sufficiency of Christ. Please enjoy!

Insufficient, “All sufficient.” These two words form the complement of each other and together give the key to an efficient Christian life. The discovery and full conviction of our utter helplessness is the constant condition of spiritual supply (Isaiah 66:1-2). One purpose of the Old Testament is to show man’s insufficiency; so that the New Testament might show Christ’s sufficiency. He has all things for us, but we cannot receive them until we know that we have nothing in ourselves. The very essence of Christian perfection is the constant renunciation of our own perfection in our flesh, and the continual acceptance of Christ’s righteousness (2 Corinthians 5:21). And as we receive deeper views of our nothingness and evil, it is but a call to claim more of His rich grace. But it is fully possible to know our insufficiency and not take firmly hold of His sufficiency in “all things.” This has to be done with a faith that will not trust for anything except “all things” from God.

May the start of this New Year be the start of something great with you and the Lord. May you use this year to grow deeper in your knowledge and love for the Lord.
