#11 – The Vision Of Christ (pt.2)

Posted on March 3, 2021March 11, 2021
Revelation Bible Study With Pastor Dan Nickerson – March 3rd, 2021

(Revelation 1:10-16)…..10 I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s Day, and I heard behind me a loud voice, as of a trumpet, 11 saying, “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last,” and, “What you see, write in a book and send it to the seven churches which are in Asia: to Ephesus, to Smyrna, to Pergamos, to Thyatira, to Sardis, to Philadelphia, and to Laodicea.” 12 Then I turned to see the voice that spoke with me. And having turned I saw seven golden lampstands, 13 and in the midst of the seven lampstands One like the Son of Man, clothed with a garment down to the feet and girded about the chest with a golden band. 14 His head and hair were white like wool, as white as snow, and His eyes like a flame of fire; 15 His feet were like fine brass, as if refined in a furnace, and His voice as the sound of many waters; 16 He had in His right hand seven stars, out of His mouth went a sharp two-edged sword, and His countenance was like the sun shining in its strength.

Again we are looking at who John turned to see after he heard the voice that spoke with the authority and clarity of a trumpet being blown at full strength. Again we are looking at the Lord Jesus making the Revelation of Himself known to John. So in the midst of the seven golden lamp stands stands One like the Son of Man. This name was Christ’s own name for Himself, who is also the very Son of God (Revelation 14:14). What an amazing description of the One who would take on flesh in order to be the propitiation for our salvation.

Take note of the garment that the Son of Man was wearing. He is clothed with a garment down to the feet and girded about the chest with a golden band. The garment and girdle seem to point towards the priesthood of Christ (Exodus 28:2) (Exodus 28:4) (Exodus 28:31). Our Lord was clothed with these garments of His royal priesthood in the order of Melchisedeck, and Him being in the midst of the candle sticks shows that He is clothed as both King and Priest. This priesthood He has obtained every since His ascension into glory, and so He wears these items, just as Aaron would do when he would go out to bless the people (Leviticus 16:4) (Leviticus 16:23-24).

John saw Jesus’ head and hair as white like wool. John again sees the glory that he saw at the Mount of Transfiguration. In (Daniel 7:9) “the Ancient of days” has “the hair of His head like pure wool.” This snowy white hair is brought to John’s attention to the brightness of His heavenly glory. His eyes being like a “flame of fire,” (Daniel 7:9-10) (1 Timothy 6:16). Our Lord is a consuming fire (Deuteronomy 4:24). He is the One who searches the heart, the One who tries the reins (Jeremiah 17:10). His eyes are all searching and penetrating like fire, that will take vengeance on all the ungodly (Revelation 19:11-12).

His feet were like fine brass. A brass that in a furnace would reach what they call “white heat,” a flashing, glowing, refined. Then there is His voice, which is the sound of many waters (Ezekiel 43:2). In (Daniel 10:6) His voice is like “the voice of the multitude. This voice is regarded as terrible to His foes.

When people say, “I’ll give God a piece of my mind when I see Him, or, “God has to tell me why He did those things,” it is because they don’t understand who they will be seeing in all His glory. We will not be standing before what we see in most pictures painted of Christ with the crown of thorns on His head, and a tear dropping from His cheek. We will see the glorified Jesus in all His unadulterated glory. Praise God that today we see Him as He will be, our glorious Lord and Savior.
