(Matthew 9:23-26)…..When Jesus came into the ruler’s house, and saw the flute players and the noisy crowd wailing, 24 He said to them, “Make room, for the girl is not dead, but sleeping.” And they ridiculed Him. 25 But when the crowd was put outside, He went in and took her by the hand, and the girl arose. 26 And the report of this went out into all that land.
Jesus used the expression “the girl is not dead, but sleeping.” Why? When in fact her body had died? Even the people were aware of this truth. Was it to say that the body was dead, but her spirit still lived? Was it to imply that she would be raised up again to life? I believe so. Jesus spoke this way when He was dealing with Lazarus (John 11:11). Also, other parts of Scripture support this (2 Peter 3:4) (Acts 7:60) (1 Corinthians 15:6,18) (1 Thessalonians 4:13-15).
Jesus Himself is our resurrection (John 11:25-26). He brought new life to Lazarus, and new life to Jairus’s daughter. He brings new life to those who put their faith in Him (Romans 6:6-8) (Colossians 2:10) (2 Corinthians 5:17). He brings eternal life to those who believe on him (John 3:36) (John 6:40) (John 11:25-26). Do you believe in the promises of Jesus in these passages? Has the Lord given you new life? Are you alive in Jesus Christ? Have you been redeemed by His blood?
(Acts 17:30-31)…..times of ignorance therefore God overlooked; but now he commandeth men that they should all everywhere repent: inasmuch as he hath appointed a day in which he will judge the world in righteousness by the man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.
