Simeon had been told that he would not die until He had seen the Lord’s Christ born into this world. But just who was this Baby? He is identified here as “the Lord’s Christ. Most would not understand such a magnificent truth, but Simeon did. Simeon understood Who He was – because the Holy Spirit was upon him. The shepherds knew Who He was because they were told. The angels in heaven knew Who He was because they saw what God had done, and were sent with the good news. But the priest who circumcised Him did not know, the people in the Temple that day did not know, and the people in Bethlehem did not know Who this very special Baby was. It’s sad, but most people alive today do not know Who this Child was and is (1 Peter 1:13-21). He is the only Savior of sinners and the only Way to God (Acts 4:12) (1 John 5:12). As the celebration of Christ’s birth approaches, do you know why He was born into this world?
